A young girl is suspected of killing an infant at a home daycare center in Michigan, police said.
Muskegon Police Chief Jeffrey Lewis told WZZM 13 the body of 1-year-old Korey Brown was found Friday morning when his mother went to pick him and two other kids up from Keysha Keepers Daycare.
There was at least one adult and four children at the daycare center, but police are considering an unidentified 8-year-old girl a suspect. A 5-year-old child is said to have witnessed what happened.
The victim’s mother, Bryanna Reasonover, told the Detroit Free Press that she had left her son and two other kids at the daycare Thursday night so she could go to work.
When she arrived Friday morning to get the kids, Brown was in a playpen, unresponsive.
Reasonover said she saw bruises and bite marks on her son’s face and fingers.
“It’s very frustrating to not know what happened, to know he was suffering when all he probably wanted was his mommy,” she said.
According to Fox 17, the workers at the daycare had no idea something was wrong with the infant.
Authorities said the children were left alone for an unknown period of time. Police believe Brown at some point started crying and the young girl stepped in to help.
It’s not clear if the girl purposely killed the child or if it was an accident.
Police said the girl is being interviewed about what happened.
